Sharks Pick Up Defender from California

The Orlando Sharks announced today that they have come to multi-year terms with defender Evan McNeley, formerly of the California Cougars.  McNeley is the fifth new player, and first defender, acquired by Orlando since September 30.

Last year, while with the California Cougars of the MISL, McNeley was fourth on the team in points scored with 33 and third on the team in blocked shots with 35.  Had he been with the Sharks last season, his numbers would have left him tied for second on the team in points scored and tied for third on the team in blocks.

Sharks Head Coach Jake Dancy sees this as another example of the value of signing players who have experience in the indoor game.

“Last year’s roster was full of great players, but they were players who were green to the dynamics of indoor soccer.  It’s hard to understand until you get on the field how different this game is from outdoor soccer,” said Dancy.

The five newly signed players (Ryan Mack, Hewerton Moreira, Ricardinho, Enrique Tovar and Evan McNeley) now officially equal last year’s entire Sharks team in total points scored last season with 308.
