Orlando Sharks Draft League Standouts
Orlando, Fla. - (July 11, 2007) – In preparation for the Orlando Shark’s inaugural season, the team participated in this week’s 2007 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Expansion draft. A total of 10 players were selected including first-round pick, Jonathan Steele of the Baltimore Blast, as well as Philadelphia KiXX forward and indoor soccer veteran, Shawn Boney. Boney completed his 10th indoor soccer season in 2006-07, has participated in more than 200 games, scored more than 100 goals and leads the KiXX in penalty-kick goals. “The Expansion Draft allows new teams to draft experienced players upon which to build a strong foundation,” said Rich Bradley, team president. “Shawn is a player that brings a lot of experience, leadership and speed to the table. We will be looking to him and the other veteran players to help us make an impact on the field come October.” The Shark’s 2007 Expansion Draft selections in order were:

Each MISL roster lists a minimum of 16 players and a maximum of 20. The Orlando Sharks have drafted 15 players so far, including the selections of Rollins College MVP defender Anthony Santiago and Marquette standout Matt Blouin from the MISL College Draft.
In addition, beginning July 14, the Sharks’ coaching staff will scour the state for the best players at open tryouts. Players selected through this final process will be invited to attend training camp in September where ultimate roster decisions will be made. Additional information regarding open tryouts and the inaugural season, including season tickets, can be found on this site.
