Sharks Win Second Straight Game
With an offense that played aggressive throughout the game, and a defense that is best described as “wicked”, the Orlando Sharks were determined to triumph over the Philadelphia Kixx in their fourth and final meeting of the year. Playing in front of a enthusiastically vocal crowd an a national audience that watched the game on Fox Soccer Channel, the Sharks played their best game of year winning their second in a row and improving to 2-16 on the year.
Once again, Paul Nagy made crucial saves and blocks which prompted the arena announcer to nickname him “Brick Wall.” The Sharks offense kept the KiXX back-peddling all night out shooting them almost two to one.
The Sharks began the scoring in the first quarter with a two-point goal from forward Damien Pottinger assisted by forward Jorge Valle. They lead after one by the score 2-0.
The Kixx tied the score in the second with a goal by midfielder Ptah Myers, then took the lead with a two-pointer by forward Don D’Ambra. The score at the half was KiXX 4, Sharks 2.
The third quarter began with KiXX goal keeper Nicker Hovacker II getting a five-minute penalty for delay of game. Shortly after, D’Ambra received a blue card and Orlando was on a power play. Taking advantage, forward Chris Cerroni netted a two-pointer. Later in the period, forward Shawn Boney wrestled in a goal at short range, and defenseman Bill Sedgewick added to the scoring with another two-point goal. By the end of the third, Orlando had amassed an 8-4 lead.
The biggest KiXX threat came with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Bill Sedgewick was called for holding, but the Sharks were able to kill the power play. Then with three minutes left, Philadelphia pulled their goal keeper for a sixth attacker. Though the KiXX were able to score a goal off the foot of forward John Barry Nusum, the Sharks answered immediately with a goal by midfielder Eric Vasquez and an assist by Shawn Boney. The final score was Orlando Sharks 10, Philadelphia KiXX 6.
