Sharks Can't Turn The Tide Against The Wave

The Orlando Sharks ended the weekend by taking on the second of the two MISL leaders. On Friday night the Sharks suffered a loss as they faced Detroit Ignition but looked to finish with a win against Milwaukee Wave. That wasn’t meant to be. Milwaukee, already in playoff form, proved to be more than a match for the Sharks.

The first quarter showed the promise of a tightly contested game. The only two Wave points were scored by forward Warren Ukah. The Sharks matched that score with a two-pointer by defenseman Matt Caution with an assist by forward Jorge Valle. This was Caution’s first goal in his second game with Orlando. The quarter ended with the teams tied at two.

Early in the second quarter, Wave midfielder Jonathan Santos netted his first goal of the match. Shortly after, the goal was answered by Sharks forward Felipe Lawall with an assist by forward Jorge Valle, his second of the game. For Lawall, this was his second goal in as many games after sitting out for weeks due to injury. The tie was broken as Milwaukee midfielder Marcelo Fontana hit his first goal and Santos followed with his second. At the half, the score was Milwaukee 8 Orlando 4.

The second half belonged to the Wave. Defenseman Troy Dusosky shot the only three-pointer of the game. A two-pointer was added by midfielder Marcio Leite, Fontana and Ukah each scored their second goals and Jonathan Santos had a hat trick. Forward Greg Howes once again showed why he is one of the leagues most potent scoring threats by netting one goal and being credited with four assists. When the dust settled, Milwaukee had scored thirteen unanswered points and won the game by the final score 21-4.

The Sharks will regroup as they prepare to face the Ignition next Friday night in Detroit.
