The Orlando Sharks traveled to Detroit in hopes of avenging last Friday’s loss to the Ignition. Recently activated Orlando head coach Jake Dancy donned a Sharks’ uniform for the first time this season and took the field. The team started the game with an aggressive offense scoring in less than fifteen seconds on a goal from midfielder Miki Djerisilo with an assist from forward Shawn Boney. Later in the period, however, Detroit tied the game with a two-point score from forward Jamar Beasley. With six minutes remaining in the first, Ignition midfielder Ze Roberto punched home a score, and then seconds later midfielder Kyt Delaidopoulos netted another two-pointer. Quickly Detroit had a 6-2 lead.
Though the Sharks offense was not able to score another goal in the half, they had a defensive answer for every Detroit attacker accept for forward Hewerton Moreira. He was able to score two goals in the quarter that helped take his team into the locker room at the half with an eight point lead and a score of Detroit 10, Orlando 2.
The Ignition began the second half firing on all eight cylinders as midfielder Doug Rice scored a quick two-point goal. Minutes later Rice scored his second goal followed by a two-point shot by midfielder Ryan Mack. Late in the quarter Moreira made his presence known again as he added to the Ignition total with a hat trick. When the Detroit scoring engine came to rest, the Ignition had posted eight unanswered points and took a commanding 18-2 lead into the final period.
The fourth quarter saw the Sharks play their best defense of the game. Goalkeeper Antonio Iriarte recorded six saves as the Detroit scoring juggernaut was shut out. Detroit’s defense was equally as strong as the Sharks were unable to score. With the final score Detroit Ignition 18, Orlando Sharks 2, the Sharks return home to take on the Milwaukee Wave Easter Sunday, March 23rd in what will be the fourth game in a row that they will face one of the top two teams in the MISL.
