Orlando Sharks defender JP Rodrigues was voted to the 2007-2008 MISL All Rookie team on Wednesday by members of the media, coaches, and team staff members around the league.
Each year, two defenders, three midfielders or forwards, and one goalkeeper are selected to make up the All Rookie team. With his selection, Rodrigues joined Milwaukee Wave defender John Santos and forward Warren Ukah, La Raza de Monterrey goalkeeper Jose Bontti and midfielder Ivan Medina, and New Jersey Ironmen forward Frederico Moojen.
The Lutz, Florida native was successful in making the transition to indoor soccer his first year in the league, recording three 3-point goals, eight 2-point goals and five assists for a total of 30 points in 25 games. He also blocked 31 shots on goal, placing him within the top three on the team in both points scored and blocked shots. Rodrigues was also one of just two players in the league to score two short handed goals, the other being Monterrey’s Genoni Martinez.
Rodrigues’ credits also include being named Miami FC’s first pick in the 2006 USL (United Soccer Leagues) draft and Atlantic Sun Conference defender of the year. Rodrigues attended Belmont University in Nashville Tennessee and has also played for the Nashville Metros in the PDL (Premier Development League.)
